Congratulations to Cator Park High School for Girls - winners of the first ever Richard Koch Cup. Cator Park succsessfully opposed the motion 'This House supports the use of child labour in the developing world' to just beat Robert Clack Lower Red to first place. The debate - in front of 350 students at the LSE - was attended by Richard Koch himself, Peter Bazalgette and the Attorney General Baroness Scotland. It was the end of a great day of debating that brought all of the Debate Mate schools together
Debate Mate will be at the Entrepreneurs' Summit next Wednesday joining Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannous (EasyGroup founder) and a host of other big names. We're there to take part in a lunchtime debate on the motion This House believes that business has lost the right to self-regulate as the one-day conference asks how we can turn the year ahead - one of the most difficult ever for business - into a moment of opportunity. The debate will see Will Sharp and Lewis Iwu debate together for the first time in four years. The pair - who won the International Schools Mace Competition in 2005 - will compete against the best that North America has to offer in Jess Prince and Alex Campbell.
The motions for the Richard Koch Cup, the competition on the 24th April that concludes the 08/09 Debate Mate programme, have been announced: The motion for the first round is "This House would invade Zimbabwe". The motion for the Grand Final is "This House supports the use of child labour in the developing world".
